Deepti Sharma Rejoins UP Warriorz in Mega Auction Masterstroke

Deepti Sharma — fresh off a stellar World Cup — was bought back by UP Warriorz in the latest Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction for a massive ₹ 3.2 crore. Although she had been released earlier by the franchise, the UP Warriorz used their “right-to-match” (RTM) option to match a bid from another team and secure her return. This comeback marked her as one of the most expensive players in WPL history.

Her re-acquisition sent a powerful signal — that despite releasing her earlier, the franchise believes deeply in her value and wanted her back for the upcoming season. The RTM maneuver allowed them to re-integrate her without losing ground financially, while also making sure they regained a core player for their campaign.

Why the Release — And Why the Return?

Just a little earlier, UP Warriorz had shocked many by releasing Deepti Sharma along with several other high-profile players.  Their strategy: a complete revamp. The franchise wanted to hit reset, maximize their auction purse, and go into the mega auction with scope to re-acquire select players — depending on how the bidding played out.

In releasing her initially, they created financial flexibility. But once the auction began, the bidding war for Deepti confirmed what many already suspected — that she remains among the most coveted all-rounders in Indian women’s cricket.

So, from a tactical decision to re-engineer the squad, the franchise ended up investing heavily to bring back one of its most important players — a move that reflects both their long-term ambition and Deepti’s continued prominence.

Deepti’s View and What It Means Going Forward

For Deepti Sharma, the reacquisition seems to have rekindled excitement and motivation. She expressed her delight at being “bought back” by UP Warriorz, citing her strong ties with the team and comfort with the management. She said she was happy to represent them again.

Given her recent form — highlighted by impressive performances in the World Cup and past WPL seasons — this bid amounts to a major vote of confidence from the franchise. It underscores that despite structural overhauls, core talent like hers remains irreplaceable.

Her return could serve as a stabilizing factor for UP Warriorz: a mix of leadership, skill, and familiarity with the team culture. For fans and teammates alike, having her back signals continuity — even amid broader changes.
