Delhi Capitals Youngster Faces Allegations of False Marriage Promise; Player Denies Claims

Delhi Capitals youngster Abishek Porel has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a woman on the false promise of marriage following the Indian Premier League 2026 season. While the cricketer has denied all allegations, a complaint has been registered at the Magra Police Station in Hooghly district.

Reports state that the complaint was filed jointly by the woman and her mother, after which police began an official investigation. The woman has alleged that she was in a relationship with Porel for the past three years.

According to her complaint, Porel had grown distant over the last year but had earlier engaged in a physical relationship with her after allegedly promising marriage. She also claimed that she faced assault and criminal intimidation.

“We have received a complaint and started an investigation,” a police official told PTI.

The latest allegation adds to a worrying pattern involving emerging Indian cricketers, with players like Vipraj Nigam and Yash Dayal also facing police investigations over similar accusations in recent times.

“I’ll Address It After Investigation”- Abishek Porel on Charges Against Him

Abishek Porel has firmly denied all allegations and defended himself against the serious accusations. The cricketer stated that he is being unfairly targeted because of his success and said he will present his side of the story after speaking with the police.

“I am playing well now, so various things are coming up. And I will talk about this when the police investigate. I have not spoken to the police yet,” Abishek Porel told media.

The left-handed batter from Bengal enjoyed a strong 2025–26 domestic season before joining Delhi Capitals for Indian Premier League 2026. However, he spent most of the tournament on the bench as the team continued with the opening pair of KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka.

Abishek Porel got his first opportunity of the season as an impact substitute during Delhi’s disappointing home defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He made the most of his chances later in the tournament, scoring 108 runs in four matches, including a half-century.
