Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor Kevin Pietersen was spotted closely monitoring the batting of young Abhishek Porel during a recent nets session. Before DC’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 29, Pietersen offered Porel valuable technical guidance.
Since joining DC as a mentor for IPL 2025, the former England captain has frequently praised Porel’s batting skills. In a video posted on DC’s official social media, Pietersen was seen enthusiastically coaching the 22-year-old, providing detailed advice and carefully observing his performance in the nets.

Abhishek Porel has had an inconsistent season so far, opening the batting in some games and batting at number four in others. In IPL 2025, he has accumulated 253 runs from 9 matches. His best performance came against Lucknow Super Giants, where he scored 51 and played a key role in helping DC secure a victory.
“The support staff obviously tells me to play freely, not to take too much pressure, because they’re there for me – it’s not like I’m alone. But at that time (after his away duck vs LSG), everyone backed me – KP backed me a lot,” Abhishek Porel said earlier this season.
Since assuming the mentor role, Kevin Pietersen has developed a strong rapport with the team. While fans have enjoyed his playful banter with players, especially with KL Rahul, his focused mentorship of Porel highlights the depth of his commitment to the squad.
