Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin survived a run-out chance in strange circumstances during the first T20I against West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. West Indies pacer had a brain-fade moment, as he bizarrely did not run Ashwin out despite the batter well short of his crease. The incident occurred during the first innings of the first T20I, which India eventually won by 68 runs.

West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and asked India to bat first. In a surprising move, Suryakumar Yadav opened the innings for India along with Rohit Sharma. Together the duo got India off to a good start. However, Suryakumar Yadav got out in the fifth over with 44 runs on the board. After his dismissal, India was dealt with blows at regular intervals. However, they still managed to put up a good score.

In the 18th over of the Indian innings, Dinesh Karthik played a straight drive against Obed McCoy. The ball was cut down by the fielders in the deep and was thrown at the bowler’s end. McCoy collected the ball but kept it in his hands. He did not dislodge the bails as he thought Ashwin had already reached back in his crease. However, the Indian bowler was well short and had to dive in.
