Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has backed Team India cricketer KL Rahul who has been going through a prolonged rough patch. He expressed that people should not go overboard with their criticism of the player, as it can affect his mentality. The off-spinner also shared his thoughts on Venkatesh Prasad and Aakash Chopra’s Twitter spat over KL Rahul’s form.

Former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad has been very vocal about KL Rahul’s poor form, calling his selection based on favoritism. He has expressed his opinion through a series of tweets. However, Aakash Copra objected to Prasad criticizing Rahul in the middle of a high-profile Test series. The duo engaged in a spat, the pacer alleging that Aakash Chopra called him an “agenda-peddler”.

In his Youtube video, Harbhajan Singh shared his thoughts on the debate and KL Rahul’s form. He expressed that the opener is a terrific player and should be backed by the fans. The off-spinner said,

“If any player does not do well the first to feel bad are the player himself and his family. We all love those cricketers. If you are loving those cricketers then your anger is evident. But don’t get too overboard so that the player’s mentality can be damaged.”

“If you were in the place of KL Rahul what would you have done? Do you think he is not trying to score runs? He has been a terrific player for India and he will come good,” he added.

Let us support KL Rahul: Harbhajan Singh

Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh further expressed that KL Rahul is also human, and is trying his best to get back to form. He added that the critics should try to see it from the player’s perspective. Harbhajan Singh explained that when a player goes through bad patch, the player himself needs to sort it out. He advised the fans to support the under-fire Indian opener. Harbhajan said,

“We are all giving our opinions on social media. It is alright as it is our opinion but just don’t go after him. He is also human he is trying to do well. You who have been players I request you all try and see this from that perspective.”

“Show me one player since the time of Gavaskar sir, even before his time and even today. Is there any player who has not gone through a rough phase where he either has not scored runs or picked up wickets? In these phases, the player himself needs to understand what is going wrong and what he needs to do to show for same talent and skills again. My suggestion is- during these times instead of criticizing them let us support him which will be good for him and us too as his admirers,” he added.
