Just days before the Asia Cup 2025, Dream11, the popular fantasy sports platform, has decided to withdraw from being the main sponsor of the Indian cricket team.

According to sources, this decision comes after the Parliament passed the ‘Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025’, which places a ban on real-money gaming platforms, directly affecting Dream11.

Though neither the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nor Dream11 has released any official statement, it is almost certain that the company will not continue its sponsorship deal with the team. Reports suggest that Dream11 will not feature as the lead sponsor during the Asia Cup 2025.

BCCI’s Stance and Next Steps

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia made it clear that the board would act in line with the country’s rules. “If it’s not permissible, we’ll not do anything. The BCCI will follow every policy of the country that is framed by the central government,” he stated.

Given the present circumstances, the BCCI is now likely to invite new bids for the team’s jersey sponsorship rights. However, if no new sponsor is finalized before the tournament begins on September 9, the Indian cricket team may have to play the Asia Cup without a lead sponsor displayed on their jerseys.

Interestingly, it has also been reported that although jerseys with Dream11 branding have already been printed, they will not be used during the event, emphasizing the seriousness of the decision.

Past Association and Asia Cup Preparations

Dream11 had become the lead sponsor of Team India in 2023 through a deal valued at Rs 358 crore. This agreement included Rs 3 crore for each home match and Rs 1 crore for away fixtures.

The sudden break in association has come at a crucial time as the Asia Cup is just around the corner. The continental tournament is scheduled to begin on September 9 and will conclude with the final on September 28.

The competition will be hosted in the United Arab Emirates, with matches taking place in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. India has already revealed its 15-member squad along with five reserve players. Suryakumar Yadav has been given the responsibility of leading the team, while Shubman Gill has been appointed as the vice-captain.

The upcoming tournament not only marks a major cricketing battle in Asia but also presents an unusual scenario for Team India, stepping onto the field possibly without a major sponsor backing their jerseys.
