Fantasy gaming platform Dream11 has officially informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that it will no longer be able to honor its ₹358 crore lead sponsorship contract, signed in 2023. This development comes in the wake of the recently introduced Online Gaming Bill, which has compelled the company to shut down many of its core services in India.
As a result, Dream11 has opted to terminate most of its existing sponsorship agreements ahead of schedule, including its association with the Indian cricket team for the upcoming Asia Cup.
BCCI Unable to Enforce Penalties
Despite the early termination of the sponsorship, Dream11 is shielded from financial penalties by a specific clause in the contract. This provision states that the company cannot be held liable if new legislation directly impacts its primary business operations. Dream11 representatives met with BCCI CEO Hemang Amin to communicate their inability to continue as sponsors under the current circumstances.
Consequently, the BCCI is planning to release a fresh tender for the sponsorship rights, ensuring the continuity of financial support for Indian cricket. This contractual safeguard allows Dream11 to exit the deal without facing any monetary repercussions.

Dream11’s withdrawal from Indian cricket sponsorship is part of a larger impact on its global operations. The company also sponsors several Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises and individual athletes such as Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah.
