Indian cricket star Jasprit Bumrah touched the hearts of cricket fans worldwide with an emotional Instagram post on July 18, all but confirming his imminent comeback to the Indian national team after being out of action for nearly a year.
The 29-year-old fast bowler, who last played competitive cricket during the India-Australia T20 series in September of the previous year, shared a poignant video on the photo-sharing platform.
The clip showcased various pictures of him training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) without any caption, but with Skylar Grey’s famous song “Coming Home” playing in the background, hinting strongly at his return.
During Bumrah’s absence from the cricket scene, Mohammed Siraj has emerged as the spearhead of India’s pace attack across all formats. Siraj, acknowledging Bumrah’s emotional post and his impending return to the team, shared the video on his own Instagram story.
He accompanied it with a heartwarming three-word caption that read, “Never Give Up.” Additionally, he expressed his excitement at the prospect of Bumrah rejoining the national team by adding, “See You soon, Bhaiya,” in his post.
Bumrah’s journey of recovery has been challenging. He initially sustained a back injury during the third ODI of the 2022 England series, but its severity only became apparent when he was left out of the squad for the Asia Cup. Though he made a brief comeback, featuring in only two games, the injury relapsed, preventing his participation in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Although he was named in the ODI squad for the home series against Sri Lanka, he withdrew a day before the series opener, and it became evident that the injury wasn’t healing naturally. Consequently, in March, Bumrah underwent surgery to address the issue.
While Bumrah was away, his absence was keenly felt, but the young and talented Mohammed Siraj stepped up to lead India’s pace attack. His impressive performances and relentless dedication have earned him praise and recognition, making him a key player for the team in Bumrah’s stead.
Fans and cricket enthusiasts worldwide eagerly await Bumrah’s return to the national team, which is expected to happen during India’s tour of Ireland the following month. The fast bowler’s presence and expertise on the field have always been instrumental in India’s success, and his comeback is eagerly anticipated.
As Bumrah makes his way back into competitive cricket, his emotional Instagram post and Siraj’s heartwarming reply stand as testaments to the camaraderie and support shared by teammates.
The Indian cricket fraternity celebrates the imminent return of one of its most formidable bowlers, looking forward to witnessing him in action once again.
