WI vs IND 2023: West Indies Announce Squad For Second Test Against India

West Indies announced a 13-member squad for the second and final Test against India, which begins on Thursday, July 20 at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. The squad includes spinner Kevin Sinclair, who has received his maiden Test call-up to represent West Indies in the match. Kraigg Brathwaite will lead the squad, while Jermaine Blackwood is his deputy.

Meanwhile, the majority of the players in the West Indies squad from the first Test have retained their place in the team. Kevin Sinclair is the only change in the squad, replacing fellow all-rounder Raymon Reifer. Reifer wasn’t able to make much of an impact in the first Test. He scored just two and eleven runs in the match, and also couldn’t pick up a wicket. He will remain with the team as an injury cover.

Kevin Sinclair’s impressive record

Raymon Reifer’s replacement Kevin Sinclair will boost West Indies’ spin department ahead of the Trinidad Test. The pitch at Trinidad is historically one of the most spin-friendly pitches in the Caribbean. Sinclair has played seven ODIs and six T20Is for West Indies so far, picking 15 International wickets, including two four-wicket hauls.

Recently he was part of the West Indian squad in the recently concluded ICC World Cup Qualifiers. He picked up two wickets in three matches in the tournament. The spinner has an impressive first-class record. In 18 matches, he has taken 54 wickets at an average of 23.98. He has five five-wicket hauls, including best bowling figures of 6/33.

West Indies lost the first test by an innings and 141 runs at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica. This is the assignment for both teams in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. The hosts will be keen to win the second Test to save the series.

West Indies squad for the second Test: Kraigg Brathwaite (C), Jermaine Blackwood (VC), Alick Athanaze, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua Da Silva (WK), Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kirk McKenzie, Kevin Sinclair, Kemar Roach, Jomel Warrican

Reserves: Tevin Imlach, Akeem Jordan
