The Hundred, cricket’s newest format has garnered a lot of interest in its very first season. The first season is drawing to a close with the final to be played later tonight at Lord’s between Birmingham Phoenix and Souther Brave. Many former cricketers have expressed how unique the rules of the Hundred are. Meanwhile, former England cricketer David Gower has also kept his opinion on the rules of the format and said that one of the rules can be used in the IPL.

The bowlers can bowl five or ten bowls consistently from one end.the fielding side changing ends after 10 balls, and the inability of the batsmen to change ends in during a dismissal. As comparisons between the two formats are constantly on the rise, Gower has come up with his own suggestion.

“If the IPL were to adopt that one idea from The Hundred, which is to penalize the fielding side if they’re too slow, with field placing, that would make a difference to any game. So maybe that’s one of the good ideas to come out of The Hundred,” Gower told Cricket.com.

Previously, a part of the captain’s match fee used to get deducted in case teams were found guilty of slow over-rate. However, since the ICC World Test Championship, a team loses points if they are not able to complete their overs on time. A similar thing happened in the Test series between England and India.

“I don’t get too upset by over rates. But it would be nice if people could stick to the over rates. There is no easy answer. They’ve tried fining people, but nowadays the odd bit of money disappearing doesn’t seem to make a jot of difference to players, who are already incredibly well paid. Maybe this points thing is valid. Maybe you’ve got to fine the teams in a way that it works,” Gower said.
