ENG vs IND 2021: England Can’t Win Tests With Just Joe Root Getting Runs – Nasser Hussain

Former England skipper Nasser Hussain feels that with only Joe Root scoring runs, the hosts will find it difficult to win test matches. England lost the second test match by 151 runs against India at the Lord’s cricket ground.

Speaking to Daily Mail, Nasser Hussain stated that the other English batsmen need to step up for England to win matches. He also added that we should not write them off, as of yet.

“England did play a lot of good cricket at Lord’s, let’s not forget that. When Rishabh Pant was walking off on Monday we all thought it could be 1-0 to England. India do have frailties in their batting. But England can’t win Tests with just one player in Root getting runs. Robinson has been an incredible find when there have been so many injuries to bowlers. So let’s not write them off just yet, but they desperately need others to score runs,” Nasser said.

Nasser Hussain Highlights England’s Opening Woes

Nasser Hussain also highlighted England’s top-order batting woes. In the ongoing series, Openers Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley average less than 20 in four innings.

“England are being carried with the bat by Root and the discrepancy with the rest is as big as ever. As I said last week, I would have kept the same top three for Lord’s because you have to make sure you’re leaving the right batter out. They can’t go back to Zak Crawley now and he has no red-ball cricket to work on his game because the schedule is a joke. But I can’t see the upside in Sibley. I’d push Haseeb Hameed up to open and consider Malan at three but he hasn’t had any first-class cricket either,” said Nasser Hussain.
