India’s wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has joined the Indian team camp in Durham after recovering from the Covid-19 virus and completing the mandatory isolation period.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday, took to Twitter to share a picture of Rishabh Pant. They wrote:

” Hello @RishabhPant17 great to have you back”

Rishabh Pant tested COVID positive on July 8

Pant did not travel with the Indian squad to Durham as he tested positive for the covid-19 virus on July 8, during Team India’s 20-day break. He was asymptomatic and in isolation at a relative’s house for a period of ten days as prescribed by Public Health England.

The mandatory isolation period ended on July 18. However, Pant did not join the Indian camp immediately. In his absence, KL Rahul kept the wickets for India in the three-day warm-up match against County-XI in Durham. Rishabh Pant is available to play the second warm-up match, which will take place later this month.

“Yes, one player has tested positive but he has been in isolation for the last eight days. He was not staying in any hotel with the team, so no other player has been affected,” confirmed BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla to PTI a few days back.

Wriddhiman Saha

Apart from Rishabh Pant, India’s throw-down specialist Dayanand Garani also tested positive for the virus. Bharat Arun, Wriddhiman Saha, Abhimanyu Easwaran are also undergoing a 10-day quarantine period as they were deemed as close contacts.

Rishabh Pant’s return to the squad ahead of the Test series is a major boost, as the wicket-keeper batsman is a key player in the Indian middle order. He scored a Century, 146-ball 114 in the final Test of India’s tour of England 2018.

The five-match Test series starts from August 4, at Trent Bridge, Nottingham
