The skipper of Indian team Virat Kohli didn’t have a great start in the new World Test Championship cycle. Kohli was dismissed on golden duck against James Anderson. Meanwhile former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra is expecting the 32-year-old to score some good runs for the team in the second innings.

Notably, Virat Kohli isn’t in his all-time best form. Kohli hasn’t registered a century in his name since 2019. Also in the first WTC cycle, Virat didn’t perform as people expected him to. Adding to it, he was expected to deliver crucial runs for India in the inaugural WTC final but he failed to do so.

The cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra is expecting Virat Kohli to play a crucial role in India’s chase against England at Nottingham. In his latest YouTube video Chopra stated:

“Virat Kohli is a world-class player. He scored a first-ball duck in the first innings but he would want to score runs when the noise is more. Expecting crucial runs from him in the second innings,” Aakash Chopra stated.

“Sam Curran won’t be effective on this pitch”: Aakash Chopra

The English pacers Ollie Robinson and James Anderson had a pretty good first Test match against India. Ollie Robinson got a five-wicket haul under his belt also James Anderson picked up 4 wickets. Also in India’s second innings, Stuart Broad dismissed Indian in-form opener, KL Rahul, at the score of 26.

The all-rounder Sam Curran went wicketless during India’s first innings. Also, Aakash Chopra feels Sam Curran won’t be effective as the pitch will not provide him much support. The former Indian cricketer elaborated:

“Sam Curran won’t be effective on this pitch. Whenever he gets to bowl, he will not find assistance from the pitch as it has flattened out. If India loses one or a maximum of two wickets in the first 17-18 overs, the game will be done. But if they lose 4-5 wickets, the game will be done against India,” Aakash Chopra concluded.

Meanwhile, during India’s first innings KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja shined with the bat. Notably, both the players were able to score a half-century. However, the big 3 of the Indian Test team; Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ajinkya Rahane failed once again. Captain Joe Root led from the front in England’s second innings and scored a marvelous century. Currently, India are at 52/1 with Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara on the crease while needing 157 runs to win on the final day.
