Bappa is finally on his way to enter our homes and hearts preparations have begun in full swing to give him the best treatment this year. Just like any other festival, we celebrate it with yummy home-made treats many of which can be quite heavy. Being in a festive mood can often mean we throw caution to the wind and indulge in sweets and snacks without realizing how many additional calories we are pulling on just within a few days.
However with certain modifications, you can make your favorite dish healthy without missing out on taste or the fear of gaining too much weight. I am sharing with you few deliciously healthy recipes of popular dishes made during Ganesh Chaturthi. Savor them without any regrets and enjoy this festival with a healthy spirit.
1. Dry Fruit Modak
Ingredients
- 3/4th cup chopped nuts ( almonds, cashews, peanuts, walnuts, pista)
- 1 ½ cup chopped dry fruits
- 8 large dates
- 6 figs
- 5 apricot
- 10 raisins
Method
- Dry roast the nuts until slightly golden on a medium heat
- Cool them and blend to a fine or coarse powder
- Add dry fruits to the same jar and blend until both combined
- Grease the mould and stuff a generous amount of the mixture inside, press it evenly on all the sides. Remove from the mold.

2. Oats Dry Fruit Ladoo
Ingredients
- 2 cup oats
- ¼ cup nuts ( almonds, walnuts, pista, cashews)
- 1 – 2 cups mixed dry fruits ( dates ,figs ,raisins, apricot )
- ½ cup cornflakes
- ¼ tsp cinnamon powder
- 1 ½ tbsp powdered sugar
Method
- Dry roast oats for about 5 minutes on a pan. Keep stirring to prevent burning. but they must turn to light golden to brown in colour to get a nice taste and flavor.
- Chop nuts and dry roast
- Chop dried fruits to small chunks and heat up to increase the shelf life, set aside to cool.
- Powder the oats first and add dried fruits and cinnamon powder to this. Run the blender for few minutes, scraping off the sides of the jar.
- To the blended mixture add crushed cornflakes, powdered sugar and nuts.
- Mix everything well and roll to balls.
- Best if served the next day.
