The enthusiastic supporter fell at Kohli’s feet before embracing his idol. Kohli, known for his sportsmanship, ensured the security personnel handled the situation gently, winning hearts both on and off the field.
RCB’s Chase: A Dominant Performance
Chasing a target of 175, RCB got off to a flying start, courtesy of an explosive opening stand between Virat Kohli and Phil Salt. The duo amassed over 75 runs in the powerplay, setting the foundation for a comfortable chase.
Playing his first IPL match for RCB, Phil Salt smashed 56 off 31 balls, taking the attack to KKR’s bowlers. His fearless batting ensured that RCB never fell behind the required run rate. Stepping in after Salt’s departure, Rajat Patidar played a quickfire 34 off 16 balls, ensuring there were no hiccups in the chase. His aggressive batting dismantled KKR’s hopes of making a comeback.
KKR’s Struggles with the Bat
Despite early promise from Ajinkya Rahane (56) and Sunil Narine (44), the KKR middle order crumbled under pressure. RCB’s bowlers, especially in the death overs, ensured KKR was restricted to a chaseable total of 174/8. The standout performer with the ball for RCB was Krunal Pandya, who scalped 3/29. His breakthroughs in the middle overs changed the momentum, preventing KKR from setting a daunting target.
Apart from Pandya, the likes of Suyash Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, and Yash Dayal played pivotal roles in restricting KKR’s scoring rate. Their combined efforts ensured RCB walked away with a comfortable victory.
Despite the match being played at Eden Gardens, RCB fans made their presence felt with loud chants of RCB RCB, showcasing Kohli’s massive fan following even in an away game. This win marked RCB’s first victory against KKR since 2022, a significant milestone for the team as they look to build momentum in the tournament.
