In the opening match of IPL 2025, RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first at Eden Gardens. The decision proved beneficial for the visitors as the Rajat Patidar-led team managed to restrict the defending champions to 175 runs in their 20 overs. Although KKR lost an early wicket, Ajinkya Rahane and Sunil Narine built a promising partnership.
However, Bengaluru turned the game around with spin in the middle overs. Krunal Pandya was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets, while Suyash Sharma, despite being expensive, grabbed a crucial wicket and stole the spotlight with a sensational delivery.
Notably, Sharma, a former KKR player, dismissed the dangerous Andre Russell in the 16th over. On the fourth ball of the over, he bowled a deceptive googly that Russell misjudged, allowing the ball to spin sharply past his bat and crash into the stumps, sending RCB fans into celebration. Although Suyash Sharma managed to take a catch wicket, he proved costly, conceding 47 runs in his four-over spell. Thanks to Krunal Pandya’s impressive three-wicket haul, RCB successfully restricted KKR to a below-par total.
Notably, Suyash finished with figures of 1/47 in four overs, making him the most expensive bowler of the innings. As for the match situation, RCB now need 175 runs to secure a victory and kick off their IPL 2025 campaign on a strong note.
Sunil Narine joins elite list with Andre Russell
West Indies cricket legend Sunil Narine, representing Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025, joined Andre Russell in an exclusive list of batters on Saturday (March 22). Opening the innings for KKR against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens, Narine played a quickfire knock of 44 runs off 26 balls, smashing five fours and three sixes.
His third six of the match, which came on the fifth ball of the 10th over bowled by Rasikh Salam Dar, marked a special milestone—Narine completed 100 sixes in the IPL for KKR. With this feat, the 36-year-old became only the third player to achieve the milestone for the franchise, following Andre Russell (206) and Nitish Rana (107).
