Fans React As KL Rahul Shines With A Century Against West Indies

KL Rahul displayed grit and determination as he brought up his 11th Test century, guiding India into a strong position on Day 2 of the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. India resumed their innings at 121/2, trailing by 41 runs, but quickly gained control as Rahul anchored the innings with poise.

His knock of 100* from 192 balls, laced with 12 boundaries, marked his second Test century against the West Indies and his first on home soil since December 2016, when he famously scored 199 against England in Chennai.

“Rahul batted with resolve and also had his share of luck early in the day when an edge flew between the ‘keeper and wide first slip,” highlighting how fortune slightly favoured him. At lunch, India stood at 218/3, leading by 56 runs, with Rahul unbeaten and Dhruv Jurel (14*) providing support.

Gill’s Missed Chance and West Indies’ Effort

Skipper Shubman Gill looked composed as he reached his half-century but fell victim to a moment of misjudgment. “Gill only had himself to blame for giving away his wicket against the run of play.” After enjoying a reverse-sweep boundary from Rahul, Gill attempted a similar shot against Roston Chase but edged the ball to Justin Greaves at slip, departing for 50 off 100 balls.

His dismissal ended a valuable 98-run partnership for the third wicket. Despite disciplined bowling from the West Indies pacers and occasional turn for the spinners, the pitch offered no significant concerns. The visitors tried to maintain pressure, with Chase (2/37) being the most successful among their attack, but India’s batters remained patient and composed.

India Builds a Solid Lead

India added 97 runs in the first session, overtaking the West Indies’ total in the 50th over when Gill cut through the backward point off Pierre for a four. KL Rahul’s early boundary past the cordon set the tone for the day, though a risky edge could have ended his innings prematurely.

Nonetheless, his resilience ensured India seized momentum. With the West Indies posting just 162 in their first innings, India’s commanding reply of 218/3 put them firmly ahead. The partnership between Rahul and Gill, coupled with Jurel’s steady presence, has placed India in a favourable position heading into the remaining sessions.

Fans Celebrate Rahul’s Comeback Century

Rahul’s century sparked an outpouring of praise on social media, with fans lauding his resilience and classy stroke play after years of inconsistent form. Many described the innings as a “statement knock,” applauding his ability to deliver under pressure and anchor the innings.

Hashtags like #KLRahul100 and #KingRahul trended on X (formerly Twitter), with users calling the innings a “masterclass in patience and timing.” Some fans even hailed it as the beginning of a new chapter in Rahul’s Test career, celebrating the long-awaited return of his match-winning form on home soil.
