Feud Or Fresh Start? The Real Reason Behind Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Move

Indian cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal has made a surprising decision to move from the Mumbai domestic cricket team to Goa. He informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) of his wish, and the association accepted it without delay. Jaiswal is set to play for Goa starting from the 2025–26 season and may also be given a leadership role.

Though he will have limited time with the team due to his national duties, he expressed interest in exploring new opportunities. In an interview, Jaiswal said it was a difficult decision since Mumbai played a huge role in shaping his cricket career. He thanked the MCA and the city for his growth. He added that Goa presented him with a fresh opportunity, including a leadership role, and he wants to help the team perform well whenever he is available.

Reported Issues with Ajinkya Rahane

According to a report by India Today, there may be more to Jaiswal’s move than just professional growth. The report suggests that Jaiswal was unhappy with the constant pressure and criticism within the Mumbai team. A key reason could be his strained relationship with Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane.

The two reportedly had issues dating back to 2022. During a match, Rahane sent Yashasvi Jaiswal off the field for sledging an opponent, even though Jaiswal had scored a double century in the same game. This incident is said to have created a rift between them. Over time, the tension reportedly increased, with Jaiswal being regularly questioned about his shot selection and overall attitude.

Final Trigger for the Move

Things took a more serious turn during a match against Jammu and Kashmir when Jaiswal had a poor performance. Reports suggest that both the coach Omkar Salvi and Rahane questioned his dedication to the team. This criticism did not sit well with Jaiswal, and according to sources, he reacted by angrily kicking Rahane’s kitbag.

These events likely pushed Jaiswal to consider a team where he felt more supported. A PTI report also hinted at a fallout with a senior player as a possible reason for his exit. While Jaiswal’s official reason for the move is to seek new opportunities, these reports point toward deeper issues within the Mumbai team setup.
