Gautam Gambhir Plans Team-Bonding Dinner Ahead of Second Test

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir is set to host a special dinner for the national team at his residence in New Delhi on Wednesday, just before the second Test against the West Indies begins on October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

According to sources, Gambhir aims to organise the gathering in the open garden area to allow the players and support staff to relax and strengthen their bond in an informal setting.

However, if rain disrupts the plans, the event will be called off. India head into the match with a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, following a commanding victory in the first Test at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, where Ravindra Jadeja’s stellar performance — scoring 104* and taking four wickets — earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

Dominant Bowling Performance Crushes West Indies in First Test

The series opener saw the West Indies win the toss and choose to bat first, but their batting lineup collapsed against a relentless Indian bowling attack. Apart from a 48-run fourth-wicket partnership between captain Roston Chase (24 off 43) and Shai Hope (26 off 36), and a gritty 32 from Greaves, the Caribbean side offered little resistance.

They were bowled out for just 162 runs in 44.1 overs. Mohammed Siraj (4/40) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/42) were exceptional with the new ball, exploiting the conditions perfectly. The spinners also contributed, with Kuldeep Yadav (2/25) and Washington Sundar (1/9) adding crucial wickets to wrap up the innings swiftly.

Indian Batters Shine with Centuries and Massive Lead

India’s response with the bat was nothing short of dominant, as they built a colossal 286-run lead over the visitors. The top and middle order delivered a batting masterclass, with KL Rahul scoring a composed 100 off 197 balls, Dhruv Jurel hitting a brilliant 125 off 210 balls, and Ravindra Jadeja remaining unbeaten on 104 off 176 balls. Their efforts powered India to a total of 448/5 before they declared.

The West Indies, already under pressure, failed to mount any significant challenge in the second innings, underlining India’s superior form. With such an emphatic victory behind them, the hosts will look to seal the series in Delhi, with Gambhir’s pre-match dinner setting the tone for another strong team performance.
