The 2022 IPL champions, Gujarat Titans (GT), have reportedly become the first franchise to resume training after the IPL 2025 season was paused for a week. Except for a few overseas players, the full squad has assembled at their home ground, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The suspension followed an incident on May 8 during the Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs. Delhi Capitals (DC) match, when a light tower malfunction led to the game being halted and both teams evacuated. The IPL officially announced the temporary suspension on May 9.
According to a Times of India report on May 11, Gujarat Titans have restarted their training sessions at their home ground, with a franchise spokesperson confirming the development.
“Yes, we have started training. The boys looked sharp and were ready to go.”
The spokesperson mentioned that England’s Jos Buttler and South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee have returned to their home countries for a short break but will rejoin the team when needed.
Gujarat Titans Secure No. 1 Spot in the Standings
Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, Gujarat Titans (GT) currently sit at the top of points table. They secured a win in their latest match against Mumbai Indians on May 6, taking their tally to eight wins and three losses from 11 games, with 16 points and a strong net run rate of +0.793.
GT also has a strong presence in individual performance charts. Three of their batters—Sai Sudharsan (509 runs), Shubman Gill (508), and Jos Buttler (500)—are ranked second, third, and fifth respectively in the Orange Cap race.
On the bowling front, Prasidh Krishna leads the Purple Cap standings with 20 wickets. Having last reached the playoffs two seasons ago, the Titans are now confidently eyeing a return to the top four.
