It seems that reports are indicating that KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya may succeed Rohit Sharma as skipper in white-ball events. The captaincy of the Men in Blue Team may undergo substantial changes as a result of this development. India has Rohit Sharma leading the cricket team both in ODIs and T20Is and these are some of the white-ball formats.
The two are veteran players, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, so they may bring in their leadership management styles and strategies, which could give the group a new look and perspective. It will be interesting to watch how things work out during this change.
Rohit Sharma retired from the game’s shortest format following his contribution towards the victorious Indian cricket team of the T20 World Cup tournament and the second overall tournament since 2007. Presently, with India playing against Zimbabwe, Shubman Gill has been made the captain of the team for the whole series.
Gill was given the captaincy for the Zimbabwe tour by the selectors, who chose a younger team because most of the first-choice players were occupied with the T20 World Cup. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya are the other players vying to succeed Rohit Sharma. During Rohit’s absence from the team in the T20I last year, both players guided the team.
Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are likely to lead India on SL tour:
In a report by Times Now, Hardik Pandya is now favored to take over India’s Twenty20 international captaincy role from Rohit. In the next tour of Sri Lanka, Pandya will lead the Indian team as per the report given out from this. This means that Rohit might be out of the series entirely, consequently, the same report suggests that India will also be starting a new ODI captain for the tour.
In his absence, the Karnataka man and the team’s 50-over captain will be KL Rahul. Further, it demonstrates that Rahul will be the next ODI captain of the team in the view of selectors.
“Hardik Pandya is all set to lead the Indian team in the T20 format after Rohit Sharma’s retirement. He’s unlikely to be rested for the upcoming series vs Sri Lanka. In ODIs, KL Rahul will lead the Indian team in the absence of Rohit Sharma as BCCI believes he makes his runs in the longer format,” top sources within the BCCI told the news outlet.
