Young spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been one of Delhi Capitals’ more intriguing wrist spinners, scalping 13 wickets in seven games. Kuldeep recently thanked head coach Ricky Ponting for believing in him and giving him the confidence to perform on the biggest stage.
Incidentally, Kuldeep had hit the rock bottom after playing only five matches in the last two years and picking up only a solitary wicker. He was also left out of the Indian team. However, with Delhi Capitals, he has regained his confidence and is looking sharp as before.
In seven games, the spinner has taken 13 wickets and turned games to help his team destroy the opposition. In a recent interview, Kuldeep Yadav stated that Ricky Ponting’s remarks encouraged him a lot and that backing reflects in the on-field performances of the player.
“You love things when you have the flexibility and opportunity to express yourself. I recall having a conversation with Ricky during my first practice session. I adored every aspect of the way he motivated me.” Kuldeep said on an episode of the Delhi Capitals podcast.
“I was coming from a different squad and hadn’t played IPL in the last two years. Ricky complimented me on my bowling skills, saying, ‘You’re bowling pretty well. ‘I want you to finish all 14 games. That is my plan of action. There is nothing to be concerned about. If you require assistance, we are here to help. When your coach backs you up like this, it drives you. Because he believes in you, your performance will reflect his belief. When you like the company, you start to feel joyful.” The performances begin to emerge gradually when you are mentally free,” Kuldeep Yadav added.
Kuldeep Yadav in fray for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia
With strong returns in IPL 2022 so far, the cricketer from Uttar Pradesh has lighten up his chances of making it to the T20 World Cup. However, he will have to carry on the momentum throughout IPL 2022. He will have to continue the good run when India play South Africa and Ireland later this year in the lead up to the mega event.
