Lucknow Super Giants didn’t had a great start to their IPL campaign young talent Ayush Badoni impressed one and all with his breathtaking batting. In the wake of his batting brilliance, Lucknow captain KL Rahul has labelled praise on Badoni, calling him the ‘baby AB’.
The youngster from Delhi was picked up by Lucknow at the IPL 2022 auction for INR 20 lakhs. In the absence of overseas cricketer, Ayush Badoni got an opportunity and he grabbed it with both hands.
He came out to bat when Lucknow Super Giants were struggling at 29/4 and paired up with Deepak Hooda to lift the debutants to 158/5. He scored a valiant half-century, which attracted praise from all quarters.
LSG skipper KL Rahul was mighty impressed with Badoni’s stellar show on debut and he expressed the same in the post-match conversation. In fact, he even hailed the youngster as ‘baby AB de Villiers’ owing to his ability to play shots all over the park.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Rahul said:
“He’s (Badoni) baby AB for us. He has been phenomenal from the first day. For a little boy, he packs a punch and plays 360 degrees, so happy for him as he grabbed the opportunity. It was not ideal for him to walk out with us four down but he did well under pressure and hopefully, he can continue doing that.”
However, Ayush Badoni’s efforts were not enough to win the game for Lucknow. Gujarat Titans produced a stellar effort in the run chase to pick up their first win in the tournament with two balls to spare.
Rahul Tewatia and debutant Abhinav Manohar steered the run-chase for the Titans with two breathtaking innings.
