Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan feels that a big knock is around the corner for Indian batter Virat Kohli, who has been going through a rough patch in his career. His gloomy form has become a cause of concern for the Indian management. Kohli’s place in the T20I squad is under the scanner, with the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 around the corner.
Virat Kohli failed to make much of an impact in the recently concluded T20I series against England. He scored only twelve runs in the two matches that he played in the series. On Sunday, the veteran batter looked in good touch and batted with positive intent. However, he couldn’t convert it into a big score.
The 34-year-old will be seen in the ODI series against England later this week. While previewing the three-match series, Michael Vaughan spoke about Virat Kohli’s batting struggles. He expressed that a special inning is not far off from the Indian cricketer’s bat. Vaughan said on Cricbuzz,
“The pinnacle point in the series will be Virat. India needs Virat back to form. They need him scoring runs. Only a few years ago, we were saying he’s the greatest chaser in white-ball history. I’ve seen glimpses that he is not far off from real special innings. Hope we see it in the next series. Really want Virat scoring consistent runs.”
You need that balancing all-rounder: Zaheer Khan bats for Shardul Thakur’s inclusion
Former India cricketer Zaheer Khan feels India should include Shardul Thakur in the team for the ODI matches against England. He reasoned that Shardul’s inclusion will provide balance to the Indian XI. Zaheer picked Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami as the lead pacers. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said,
“(Jasprit) Bumrah and (Mohammed) Shami for sure. They are definitely going to be your starters. Then you’ll have Shardul (Thakur), maybe, playing that role of an all-rounder. You need that balancing all-rounder. Between Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj, one will get the go-ahead. You’ll have four-seamers for sure unless Hardik is going to be contributing with the ball. Then they’ll have different plans.”
The three-match ODI series between India and England is all set to begin on July 12 at the Kennington Oval in London. The second and third T20I will take place at the Lord’s cricket ground and the Emirates Old Trafford respectively.
