In the first innings of the series opener, Moeen defeated Australian batter Cameron Green with an unplayable delivery.
The star spinner and middle-order batsman also made news for violating Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players.
The 89th over of Australia’s first innings at Edgbaston saw Moeen fielding at the boundary line and applying a drying agent to his hand.
On-field antics by Moeen also sparked a discussion on social media. Former Indian spinner Harbhajan took to Twitter to publicly support the England all-rounder.
“I don’t understand all the talk about Moen Ali using spray to numb the pain on spinning fingers.”
“The only problem is that he ought to have told the umpires if the batsman developed a blister beneath his gloves and received a spray.”
“Will anybody even be aware. Think about it using the same logic,” Harbhajan said.
Moeen’s admission of guilt and acceptance of Andy Pycroft’s suggested punishment prompted Harbhajan’s response.
Ahsan Raza, Marais Erasmus, Chris Gaffaney, and Mike Burns, the four on-field umpires, all brought accusations against Moeen.
Moeen has received one demerit point in his disciplinary record for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
Additionally, the Englishman received a fine equal to 25% of his match fee from the opening Ashes Test against Australia.
In the first Test of the Ashes series, which Australia won on the match’s final day, Moeen only claimed three wickets.
As Australia defeated England by two wickets on Tuesday to take a 1-0 series lead in the Ashes, skipper Pat Cummins played a magnificent knock of 44 off 73 balls.
