Former cricketer Ricky Ponting feels Australia will include David Warner in the World Test Championship final. The Pat Cummins-led team defeated India in the third test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy to qualify for the final of the championship. He expressed that the team needs to take some big decisions ahead of the mega-clash.
The World Test Championship final will take place at The Oval in London on n 7–11 June. Australia will either face India or Sri Lanka in the match. Former cricketer Ricky Ponting expressed that Australia will stick with David Warner for the game. The left-hander has not been in good form since his 100th Test.
Warner played in the first two matches of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. He scored 26 runs at an average of 8.66 and was ruled out of the remainder of the series due to a concussion. Speaking to the ICC Review, Ponting said,
“I think they’ll definitely want to play him in the World Test Championship match.”
“They have got some really big decisions to make, leading into the Ashes [in England] as well. A bit like some of the selection issues they had coming to India,” he added.
Don’t think it’s the end of David Warner: Ricky Ponting
Former cricketer Ricky Ponting feels Australia will back David Warner. If the opener does well in the World Test Championship final, he might get a chance for the Ashes later this year. Ricky Ponting further opined that Warner’s 100th test was the best opportunity for the left-hander to retire on a high. He said,
“But I don’t think it’s the end of David Warner, they’ll bring him back for that one game. If he does well there, then I think he’ll probably start the Ashes and see from there.”
“He’d just played his 100th Test in Melbourne, and obviously got 200 in the first innings down there. And to bow out in front of his home crowd is obviously the way that every player would like to finish their careers,” he added.
