Jasprit Bumrah Unlikely To Play In IPL, WTC Finals: Report

Mumbai Indians have been dealt a major blow as Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely for the Indian Premier League season 16 starting on 31 March 2023. He could miss the World Test Championship finals for 2021/23 if the Indian team qualifies. The WTC finals is slated to take place from 7th June at Kennington Oval, London.

Bumrah has been missing major tournaments since September 2022 like Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. He was not included in the first two Test matches in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia and will miss the entire series due to an injury.

Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian Cricket in the rescheduled fifth Test match against England at Edgbaston as Rohit Sharma had COVID last year. According to a report in Cricbuzz, Bumrah’s injury is quite serious as the BCCI sources said that he could miss major cricketing action in the coming months including World Test Championship 2023 if India qualifies.

Jasprit Bumrah was included in the playing for the 2nd T20I match against Australia in Nagpur on 25 September. After that, the ace pace bowler struggled with his back injury and did not take part in the remaining series against Australia and South Africa due to the same injury. Since then he has been rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru.

Bumrah was included in the One-day international squad against Sri Lanka at home but failed to recover in time. The BCCI is not taking chances as Bumrah will be an important member of the squad that will take part in 50 over World Cup on Indian soil this year.

India is currently leading the series 2-0 in the ongoing Border Gavaskar series against Australia and needs one win to qualify for the World Test Championship finals in the remaining two Test matches.

Jasprit Bumrah big miss for Mumbai Indians

Jasprit Bumrah will be a big loss for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 16 starting on 31 March. Without his bowling, MI would struggle as they bought Jofra Archer into their squad for this year’s edition.

Mumbai Indians had a disappointing 2022 season finishing last for the first time in IPL history. They just won 4 matches from the 14 outings they played.
