Team India captain Rohit Sharma has no plans to give up on the T20 Internationals, amid talks about the transitional phase in the format. He missed the recently concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka, with all-rounder Hardik Pandya taking up the leadership role in the series. Following the series, speculations regarding Rohit Sharma’s future in T20Is were doing the rounds. However, the skipper has cleared the air.

Addressing the media on Monday, ahead of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, starting in Guwahati, Rohit Sharma expressed that he was on break, and has not given up on the T20 format. He stressed that it is important for the players to rest, given that the team plays back-to-back matches. Rohit said as quoted by PTI,

“Firstly, it is not possible to play back-to-back matches. You need to give them (all format players) enough break. I definitely fall in that as well. We have three T20Is against New Zealand. We will see what happens after IPL. I have not decided to give up the format.”

We won’t be able to play Ishan Kishan: Rohit Sharma

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma that Ishan Kishan will miss out on a place in the XI for the first ODI against Sri Lanka. He expressed that the team needs to give Shubman Gill a fair run at the international level. Gill did not have a great outing in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, where he averaged just 19.33. However, he has a great record for India in ODIs, in his short career so far.

“Unfortunate, that we won’t be able to play Ishan Kishan. We have to give Gill a fair run,” said Rohit Sharma at the pre-match press conference in Assam.

The three-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka begins on January 10 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
