Former India cricketer Kapil Dev has raised questions over Team India captain Rohit Sharma’s fitness. He expressed that the skipper should motivate the other players in the team to get fitter. Since Rohit Sharma took over as the all-format captain, he has featured only in 39 matches across formats, out of the 68 games India played. The main reason behind this was BCCI’s workload management program. However, the skipper also missed a few games due to injuries.

In an interaction with ABP News, Kapil Dev expressed that there are no shortcomings in Rohit Sharma’s game. However, he added that there are questions about the right-handed batter’s fitness. Kapil Dev stated that the team should feel proud of their captain, who should motivate the others to get fitter as well. He said as quoted by Times Now,

“There’s no shortcoming in Rohit Sharma. He has everything but I personally think, there is a huge question mark over his fitness. Is he fit enough? Because a captain should be someone who motivates the other players to get fitter, the teammates should feel proud of their captain.”

If he gets fitter, the entire team will rally around him: Kapil Dev

Former India cricketer Kapil Dev further expressed that there has been a lot of criticism regarding Rohit Sharma’s batting performance since he has taken over as the captain. However, he feels that the Mumbai batter does not have any cricketing skill issues, but needs to work on his fitness. Dev added that the Indian team would rally around Rohit Sharma if he gets fitter.

“I can say with surety that there is a huge doubt over Rohit’s fitness. There has been a lot of criticism that he hasn’t scored that many runs since he has become captain, I kind of agree with it but I don’t think there is any issue with his cricketing skills. He is a very successful cricketer. If he gets fitter, the entire team will rally around him,” he added.
