The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reappointed former cricketer Chetan Sharma as the Chairman of Selectors of the Senior Men’s National Selection Committee, after the Cricket Advisory Committee’s (CAC) recommendation. They announced the selection committee through a press release on Saturday, January 7.

Former cricketers Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape were part of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) which undertook the task of selecting members of the All-India Senior Selection Committee. Along with Chetan Sharma, who is from the North Zone, the selection committee will comprise former Test opener Shiv Sundar Das, former seamer Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, and Sridharan Sharath as the other members. SS Das is from the Central Zone, while Subroto Banerjee is from the East Zone. The others, Salil Ankola, and Sridharan Sharath are from West Zone and South Zone respectively.

“The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Ms. Sulakshana Naik, Mr. Ashok Malhotra, and Mr. Jatin Paranjape undertook an extensive process for selecting members of the All-India Senior Selection Committee,” the BCCI wrote on Saturday.

BCCI received over 600 applications for the five posts for the senior men’s national selection committee

The Board of Control for Cricket in India had earlier invited applications for the position of National Selectors and listed out criteria for consideration in its release. On Saturday, they stated in the press release that the board received over 600 applications. The CAC shortlisted 11 candidates and interviewed them, and then recommended five candidates for the senior men’s national selection committee. They also put forward Chetan Sharma’s name for the post of chairman of selectors.

“The Board received around 600 applications following its advertisement for the five posts issued on its official website on 18th November 2022. Upon due deliberation and careful consideration, the CAC shortlisted 11 individuals for personal interviews,” the BCCI wrote in their statement.
