The 2023 Border Gavaskar Trophy got underway on Thursday, February 9 with the First test at the Vidarbha Cricket Association in Nagpur. The first day witnessed some interesting moments, including Ravi Shastri and Mark Waugh’s banter on-air. The duo is part of the commentary panel for the four-match Test series.

During the first innings, Ravi Shastri reminded Mark Waugh of one of his infamous predictions during the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy. The former Australian cricketer had predicted that Team India will lose the series 4-0 after they lost the first Test badly. India was bowled out for a paltry 36 runs in the second inning at the Adelaide Oval. They went on to lose the match by eight wickets.

Mark Waugh and other former Australian cricketers had written off the Indian team at that time, predicting a whitewash. However, Team India made a memorable comeback in the second Test at Melbourne on the back of skipper Ajinkya Rahane’s century. They won the test by eight wickets, and eventually ended up winning the series 2-1.

Talking to Mark Waugh on air, during the Nagpur Test, on Thursday, Ravi Shastri said, “I remember one prediction from Mark, India will lose 4-0 when we got all out for 36”.

Mark Waugh replied, “I am not the only one who predicted that (smile)”.

“India will bat only once” – Dinesh Karthik makes prediction for Nagpur Test

Veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik made a bold prediction during the first Test between India and Australia at Nagpur. He opined that Team India will bat only once in the match. After winning the toss, Australia elected to bowl first, however, they couldn’t make the most of the opportunity. They were bowled out for 177 runs in the innings.

While being on air, Dinesh Karthik said, “I do feel India will bat only once in the Test match.” He also asked Mark Waugh to mark his words. The duo engaged in a fun banter on air.

“What time is it? It’s five past three. I’ll write that in my diary. He could be right. It’s not going to be easy, it’s not going to be a stroll in the park,” said Mark Waugh.

Dinesh Karthik replied, “But at the same time, it’s not as tough as the Aussie batters made it out to be either.”
