Veteran cricketer Ajinkya Rahane will play for Leicestershire Cricket County Club in the 2023 season. He will join the team in June after his Indian Premier League campaign with the Chennai Super Kings. The right-handed batter will play eight matches in the LV= Insurance County Championship and will be available for the entirety of the One Day Cup.

The Leicestershire Cricket County Club announced the decision on Tuesday, January 31 through a press release. Rahane is the club’s third overseas signing for 2023, with Wiaan Mulder and Naveen-ul-Haq as the other two. Leicestershire wrote,

“Leicestershire CCC is thrilled to confirm the signing of India star @ajinkyarahane88 for the 2023 season. The former @BCCI captain will join in June for 8 County Championship matches and the entirety of the One Day Cup.”

Ajinkya Rahane has been out of the Indian team for a while. However, he has been in good touch in the 2022-23 domestic season. The Mumbai skipper was the leading run-scorer for his team in the Ranji Trophy. He scored 634 runs in seven matches, at an average of 57.63. Rahane slammed two centuries and a fifty, including a double hundred in the first-class tournament. The veteran cricketer has played 82 Tests for India, scoring 4931 runs at an average of 38.51, with twelve centuries and twenty-five half-centuries.

Really happy to be joining Leicestershire: Ajinkya Rahane

Former Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane expressed that he cannot wait to join Leicestershire for the upcoming season. It will be his second stint in county cricket after playing seven Championship matches for Hampshire in 2019. He scored 307 runs at 23.61 in that season and will be keen to improve the stats this time.

In the statement released by Leicestershire, Ajinkya Rahane said,

“I’m really happy to be joining Leicestershire for the upcoming season. I can’t wait to play alongside my new teammates and explore the vibrant city of Leicester.”
