Team India cricketer KL Rahul has resumed training ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series, which begins on February 9 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. He hit the nets at the MIG Cricket Club in Bandra. The opening batter missed the white-ball series against New Zealand as he recently got married to Athitya Shetty in a private ceremony.

KL Rahul last played for India in the Test series against Bangladesh, where he led the team to a 2-0 clean sweep. Just a few days after his marriage, the right-handed batter resumed training for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The opener will be Rohit Sharma’s deputy in the series. Journalist Taus Rizvi shared a video on Twitter featuring KL Rahul’s practice session in Bandra.

KL Rahul has played 45 Tests, scoring 2604 runs at an average of 34.26. He has seven centuries and thirteen half-centuries in red-ball cricket for India. The opener played four Tests last year, scoring 137 runs at an average of 17.12, with one fifty.

Border Gavaskar Trophy crucial for Team India as they eye WTC final qualification

The much-awaited Border Gavaskar Trophy will be Team India’s last assignment in the ongoing 2021-21 cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC). Team India has a points percentage (PCT) of 58.93, with eight wins, four losses, and two draw games. The hosts need to beat Australia by a 3-1 margin to easily qualify for the final of the WTC.

In the case of a 2-2 series draw, India will finish ahead of South Africa’s best-possible result with a 56.4 PCT. They will qualify for the final if Sri Lanka fails to win two matches against New Zealand. Meanwhile, the visitors are almost in the final, as they need at least one draw in the series.

India squad for the first two Tests: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (VC), Shubman Gill, C Pujara, V Kohli, S Iyer, KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), R Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Suryakumar Yadav
