Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar appealed to the BCCI to complete the 2025 Indian Premier League matches in a subdued manner. The IPL 2025 is slated to resume on May 17, in an RCB vs KKR match (Match 58).

Following the loss of lives due to rising border tensions between India and Pakistan, it would be fitting for the BCCI to hold the matches without any loud music or DJs, as a mark of respect to the grieving families, Gavaskar said. He gave this statement after the BCCI suspended the ongoing IPL 2025 for a week amidst escalating cross-border tension. The league is expected to resume in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad, despite concerns being raised on whether these venues are fit at the moment due to impending rains.

“It’s just no dancing girls, nothing”- Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar, the former captain of India, has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to play the remaining Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) games in a low-key fashion.

“What I would really like to see is. These are the last few matches, we have had about 60 games or thereabouts. I think it is the last 15 or 16 games. I would sincerely hope, because of what has happened and some families have lost their near and dear ones, I would like that there is no music. Let’s not have the DJS screaming in the middle of an over,” Gavaskar told Sports Today.

“None of that. Let the games be played. Let the crowds come in. Let’s just have a tournament, the balance of a tournament. It’s just no dancing girls, nothing. Just cricket would be a really nice way to respect the sentiment of the families who have lost their near and dear ones,” he added.

A week-long suspension of the IPL 2025 followed Pakistan’s strikes in northern India during Match 58 between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala. A repeat of the game will take place in Jaipur on May 24 after it was stopped in the middle of play.
