Rohit now possesses an impressive tally of 556 international sixes, accomplished in only 473 innings, surpassing Gayle’s 551.

The left-handed powerhouse, well-known for his remarkable hitting abilities and his friendship with Rohit off the field, expressed his admiration on the social media platform ‘X’ with a gracious caption: “Congrats, Most Sixes in International cricket. #45 Special.”

With the exception of Rohit and Gayle, no other cricketer has managed to surpass the mark of 500 international sixes. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), Rohit Sharma holds the third position with 298 sixes, trailing behind Shahid Afridi (351) and Chris Gayle (331). Among currently active players, England’s Jos Buttler is ranked 12th with 165 sixes, while India’s former captain, Virat Kohli, is positioned at 19th with 142.

Rohit Sharma sets new records by achieving his 31st century in ODIs

Defying convention, Rohit Sharma not only exceeded Chris Gayle’s long-standing record of 553 international sixes but also surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most World Cup centuries.

Sachin Tendulkar achieved six World Cup centuries over six editions, while Rohit accomplished the same feat in just three: 2015, 2019, and 2023. In the 2019 World Cup in England, the ‘Hitman’ also established a record by scoring five centuries in a single edition.

Furthermore, his 131 off 84 balls against Afghanistan marked his 31st century in One Day Internationals (ODIs), surpassing Ricky Ponting. He now ranks third on the all-time list for the most ODI centuries, trailing behind Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar.

During the same innings, he also broke Kapil Dev’s record for the fastest ODI century by an Indian in World Cup history, achieving it in just 63 balls.
