ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Haris Rauf Bowls Expensive Spell, Achieves Unwanted Records During New Zealand Clash

Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf had a forgetful outing against New Zealand in the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 match on Saturday, November 4 at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He was taken to cleaners by the New Zealand batters during the match, turning out to be an expensive spell.

Haris Rauf conceded 85 runs in his spell, at an economy rate of 8.5. His only wicket in the innings was Daryl Mitchell. The Kiwi batter got bowled for 29 runs as Rauf bowled a full and wide off-cutter. Rauf conceded 10 boundaries and two sixes in the innings. He achieved several unwanted records during the course of the match.

The six hit by Glenn Philips off Haris Rauf was the 16th six conceded by the pacer in the ongoing tournament. He set a new record for conceding the most number of sixes in a single edition of the World Cup. Zimbabwe medium-pacer Tinashe Panyangara, held the record earlier, conceding 15 sixes during the 2015 edition.

 

Haris Rauf also became the first Pakistan bowler to concede 80-plus runs in a single edition of the ICC ODI World Cup twice. Apart from the New Zealand game, he conceded 83 runs against Australia in the earlier match of the tournament. Rauf took three wickets in the Australia game in eight overs.

In the 46th over of the New Zealand innings, pace bowler Haris Rauf bowled the most expensive spell in the history of the ICC ODI World Cup by a Pakistan bowler. He conceded 85 runs in his spell of 10 overs. However just a few overs later. Shaheen Afridi went past Rauf’s record, conceding 90 runs in his spell. The record was held earlier by Haris Rauf himself when he conceded 83 runs against Australia in the ongoing tournament.
