Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi’s magical spell against Bangladesh was one of the highlights of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 match on Tuesday, October 31 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. He took three wickets in the match, helping Pakistan restrict Bangladesh to a modest total. His delivery to dismiss Mahmudullah left Bangladesh stunned.

The incident took place during the thirty-first over of the Bangladesh innings. Mahmudullah was set at the crease, and looking to score a big one. He was batting on 56 runs, with four boundaries and a six. On the fourth delivery of the over, Shaheen Afridi bowled a length delivery which came back into the batter. Mahmudullah felt that he could work it onto the on-side. However, he closed the face of his bat.

The Bangladesh batter completely missed it, and let the ball slide past his outside edge. It went on to rattle the stumps, as Mahmudullah watched it crash into the middle and off. Shaheen Afridi also dismissed Tanzid Hasan for a duck and Najmul Hossain Shanto for four runs earlier in the innings, to give Pakistan a solid start.

Pakistan eyes to get back to winning ways

Pakistan started off the ICC ODI World Cup on a good note winning their first two matches. However, they have lost their way, losing the next four and are in a spot of bother. They might crash out of the qualifying race. Currently, they are seventh on the points table with two wins from six matches, earning four points. They need to win their remaining three matches and also hope for other results to go their way to qualify for the knockouts.

Pakistan will take on New Zealand next on November 4 in Bengaluru. This will be followed by their final league game against England at Kolkata on November 11.
