Team India skipper Rohit Sharma opened up on how he is managing the team in the ongoing ODI World Cup. He expressed that he tries to put himself in the shoes of the players and think about how he can help them to flourish. Under his leadership, India has won five out of five matches in the ongoing tournament.

Rohit Sharma has a huge captaincy experience, leading Mumbai Indians to several titles in the Indian Premier League. He took over the Team India leadership baton from Virat Kohli. The opener is hailed for his leadership and how he has instilled confidence and belief in the team and created a positive and supportive environment Several players have credited the skipper for their performance.

Talking about his captaincy and how he manages the players, Rohit Sharma said on StarSports,

“I try and put myself in their shoes and think about what this individual will be needing now. So, it’s important to think like that. So, yeah that is something that I wouldn’t say comes naturally to me. I’ve learned it over the years, gone through my personal experiences and understood what is needed for a team to be successful.”

“We do understand as well that when you want to win championships, big tournaments, everyone needs to come to the party and play their part. So, it’s important that you keep everyone in good mental space. So, it’s very important to hear everyone out, understand what they want, how they want to operate,” he added.

Give the players space and freedom to go and execute their job: Rohit Sharma

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma further expressed that it is important that the players have clarity over their role in the team. He stated that in a tournament like the World Cup, the players can feel the pressure. Hence, the skipper stated that the players need to be given the freedom to express themselves. Rohit Sharma said,

“I think what is needed to be successful is to understand everyone’s need, their requirement and give them that space and freedom to go and execute their job and their roles. It can be quite daunting at times because when you are playing such a high-profile tournament, the pressure can get to you at times.”
