Temba Bavuma will lead South Africa as captain in the ICC ODI World Cup for the first time

In this year’s ICC ODI World Cup, Bavuma will lead the South African team for the first time. Their campaign kicks off on Saturday, October 7, against former champions Sri Lanka at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.

South Africa’s previous performance in the group stage during the last 50-over World Cup hosted by India was impressive, finishing at the top of their group. It will be intriguing to observe if the Proteas can repeat that performance this time around.

Prior to the 2023 World Cup, Temba Bavuma’s team engaged in a warm-up game against New Zealand, which the Blackcaps won by a margin of seven runs using the D/L method.
