ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: [WATCH]- David Warner Reacts In Anger And Walks Off The Field In Frustration After His Controversial Dismissal

Australian opener David Warner was furious when the Decision Review System (DRS) and Hawk-Eye couldn’t assist him in overturning an on-field LBW decision against Sri Lanka in the 2023 World Cup in Lucknow on Monday. Despite a strong beginning, the left-handed batsman failed to connect with a pull shot against Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madushanka, and the ball struck him near the knee-roll in line with the leg-stump during the fourth over.

In response, he quickly signalled to the umpire, indicating that the ball was moving down the leg side. However, the umpire deliberated before eventually giving him out. Warner initiated a review, and the Hawk-Eye displayed two reds along with an “Umpire’s Call” indicating the ball was grazing the leg stump. Frustrated, he forcefully tapped his bat against his pad, shouted something, and then left the field in a hurry.

Before Warner, Australia experienced a couple of DRS decisions not in their favour

This wasn’t the first instance of an unfavourable DRS decision affecting an Australian team in the World Cup. In their prior match at the same venue against South Africa, which they lost, two deliveries from Kagiso Rabada led to quick dismissals of Steve Smith and Marcus Stoinis.

Smith was given out LBW for a ball that was very close to going down the leg side. Hawk-Eye overturned the on-field decision with three reds, but there was controversy because the ball’s trajectory wasn’t shown, only a still image.

Shortly after, South Africa appealed for a caught-behind against Stoinis. Their review indicated he touched the ball with his glove, but at the moment, his glove was not on the bat. However, the third umpire disagreed.
