Team India batter Ajinkya Rahane made significant gains in the ICC Men’s Test Rankings, following his brilliant performance in the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia. Though India lost the test match, Rahane was one of the few positives for the team in his comeback match in red-ball cricket.

The veteran batter played in the first Test for Team India in 18 months. He smashed 89 runs, and put together crucial partnerships with Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur to dig India out of trouble. In the second innings, he scored 46 runs and ended as India’s leading run-scorer in the match. Following the final, he moves up to the 37th position in the ICC Test Rankings among batters.

Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur, who smashed 51 runs in the first innings, jumped to 94th position. In a rare achievement, Australian batters rank in the top three places in the rankings. Marnus Labuschagne ranks at the top, followed by Steve Smith and Travis Head. Steve Smith and Travis Head slammed centuries in the World Test Championship final. Australian wicket-keeper Alex Carey has moved 11 spots higher to the 36th position.

R Ashwin retains the top spot in bowlers rankings

Team India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was left out of the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia. The decision was debated by fans and experts, as India lost the match by 209 runs. Despite not featuring in the game, Ashwin has retained his top spot in the bowler’s rankings. He has 860 points in the table.

Meanwhile, Australian skipper Pat Cummins held on to his third spot. Scott Boland, who has an impressive outing in the World Test Championship final, jumped six places. He now ranks 36th in the top bowlers rankings. Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja retained his top spot in the all-rounders’ rankings, with Ravichandran Ashwin at the second spot.
