Suryakumar Yadav is set to achieve a significant mark in the upcoming five-match T20I series between Team India and Australia as he takes on the role of captain for the first time in his international cricket career. The series kicks off on Thursday, November 23 at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. The Indian skipper will also be eyeing major records during the series.

Suryakumar Yadav has been terrific for India in T20Is. He is the Number 1 batter in Men’s T20I Rankings. The right-handed batter has slammed 1841 runs at an average of 46.02 at a strike rate of 172.70. He has smashed three centuries and 15 fifties. He is on the verge of becoming the fastest batter to score 2000 runs in T20Is.

Suryakumar Yadav needs 159 runs in the next two matches to equal Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s record as the joint-fastest to the milestone. The duo took 52 innings to score 2000 T20I runs. Meanwhile, if Suryakumar Yadav scored 159 runs in the next five matches, he will become the second-fastest to achieve the milestone, and the fastest for India. Virat Kohli currently holds the record for being the fastest to score 2000 T20Is for India. The veteran batter took 50 innings to get to the milestone.

Team India’s squad for the T20I series against Australia

Suryakumar Yadav will be making his captaincy debut for Team India in the five-match T20I series against Australia. He has been assigned the responsibility in Hardik Pandya’s absence. The all-rounder has been ruled out due to an injury. Ruturaj Gaikwad will be Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy in the T20I series. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer has been rested for the first three matches. He will join the team in Raipur for the last two T20Is.
