The Indian bowlers wreaked havoc to bowl Australia cheaply in the first One-day International match played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 17 March 2023.
Stand-in captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for the hosts as Mohammed Siraj got the initial breakthrough dismissing Travis Head and taking the inside edge onto the stumps. Mitchell Marsh opening the innings looked impressive with attacking shots putting pressure on Indian bowlers.
On other hand, Steve Smith hit the bad deliveries away for boundaries. At the end of 10 overs, Australia scored 59 for 1.
Hardik Pandya got the breakthrough by dismissing Steve Smith with a good catch by KL Rahul. Smith and Marsh added 72 runs for the 2nd wicket. Mitchell Marsh showed his intent reaching a half-century off 51 deliveries keeping the momentum going for Australia.
Ravindra dismissed dangerous Mitchell providing an easy catch to Shami at short third man. Mitchell Marsh and Labuschagne added 52 runs for the 3rd wicket.
A sensational catch by Ravindra Jadeja ended the innings for Marnus Labuschagne leaving Australia in trouble. Josh Inglis looked impressive against Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. Mohammed Shami was bought into the attack for his next spell and kept asking tough questions to Australian batters. He produced a beauty to dismiss Cameron Green that shattered the stumps in the 30th over to leave Australia in deep trouble.
Shami was simply brilliant as Shubman Gill dropped a sitter and eventually got rid of Marcus Stoinis with a good catch by Gill at first slips.
It was superb bowling by the Indian bowlers as they kept picking wickets at regular intervals to bowl out Australia for just 188 in 35.4 overs. Shami was the pick of bowlers for Team India with 3 wickets for 17 runs in 6 overs, Siraj 3 for 29, Ravindra Jadeja 2 for 46, and Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya 1 wicket each.
