Team India all-rounder Deepak Chahar has withdrawn from the upcoming ODI series against South Africa. The series was set to kick off on Sunday, December 17 in Johannesburg. Meanwhile, pacer Mohammed Shami has also been ruled out of the two-match Test series on the tour.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement to announce the changes. Deepak Chahar did not join the ODI squad in South Africa due to a family medical emergency. He informed the BCCI of his unavailability. Akash Deep will join the team as his replacement in the ODI series. On the other hand, Mohammed Shami who was part of the Test team subject to fitness has not been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team.
The BCCI wrote in the statement, “Mr Deepak Chahar has informed the BCCI that he will not be available for the upcoming ODI series due to a family medical emergency. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Mr Akash Deep as his replacement.”
“Mr Mohd Shami, whose participation in the Test series was subject to fitness has not been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team and the fast bowler is ruled out of the two Tests,” the statement added.
Shreyas Iyer to be unavailable for second and third ODI
Team India batter Shreyas Iyer will be unavailable for the second and third ODI against South Africa. He will join the Test squad and prepare for the test series, following the conclusion of the first ODI in Johannesburg on 17th December, confirmed the BCCI.
Meanwhile, Head Coach Mr Rahul Dravid, Batting Coach Mr Vikram Rathour, Bowling Coach Mr Paras Mhambrey and Fielding Coach Mr T. Dilip will also miss the ODI series. They will link up with the Test squad and oversee their preparations for the inter-squad game and the Test series. The ODI team will be assisted by Batting Coach Mr Sitanshu Kotak, Bowling Coach Mr Rajib Datta and Fielding Coach Mr Ajay Ratra.
