The India vs England marquee first Test clash saw an amazing battle between bat and bowl. However team India looked ahead in the game throughout the match. Still being ahead in the game Virat Kohli led side was unable to bag a victory in the match. As the match was washed out by rain on the 5th day, both teams had to settle for a draw.

Meanwhile, ICC released an official statement on Wednesday in which it was revealed both the teams will lose 2 WTC points each for maintaining a slow over-rate in the match. Notably, teams are rewarded 12 points for a victory and 4 points for a draw, and 6 points for a tie. So now India and England have 2 points each under their belt.

The statement also revealed that the teams were fined for the slow over-rate. The Virat Kohli-led India has been penalized 40% of match fees. Also, Joe Root led England was fined 40% of match fees by match referee Chris Broad.

During the first Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham Indian bowlers did a great job in the match. Also, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja scored a marvelous half-century in the first innings. From England’s batting unit only Joe Root looked good and all the other batsmen failed. However, English bowlers Ollie Robinson and James Anderson did a great job.

Team India needed 157 runs to win on the last day of the match with Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara on the crease. However, due to continuous rain, not even single delivery was bowled on the final day of the match. Eventually, the match was abandoned and India had to accept a draw from the winning position.

India and England will be heading in the Lord’s for the second Test match which will begin on 12 August. The teams are expected to make some changes in the playing XI considering spinners might come in play in a Test match at Lord’s.
