Jasprit Bumrah, the pace spearhead for Team India, has been named the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2024, in recognition of his exceptional bowling performance. The fast bowler took an impressive 71 wickets in 13 matches, maintaining a remarkable average of 14.93.
Bumrah kicked off the year with a stellar series against England in the subcontinent, which included a Player of the Match performance in Vizag. His reverse-swing mastery played a key role in India’s 106-run victory, helping them level the series.
The pacer concluded the series with 19 wickets at an average of 16.89 and remained a constant threat throughout India’s home season later in the year. The pinnacle of Jasprit Bumrah’s year came during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, where he delivered a memorable performance, creating history with every match.
The pacer reached the 200-wicket milestone midway through the series, becoming the 12th Indian bowler to achieve this feat. Bumrah, who captained India in two of the five Tests overseas, was named Player of the Series for his remarkable 32-wicket haul, delivering one of the greatest fast-bowling performances in cricket history.
He beat out contenders like Harry Brook, Joe Root, and Kamindu Mendis for the award. Bumrah was also recently appointed captain of the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2024.

Bumrah did not bowl in the second innings of the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney due to a back injury and was subsequently excluded from India’s white-ball series against England at home.
Although he has been included in Team India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, there are significant concerns about his fitness and recovery.
