Indian Government Set To Grant Visas To Pakistan Players For T20 World Cup: Reports

The Indian government will arrange visas for Pakistan players which will allow them to travel across the border without any difficulties to participate in the World T20 later this year in India. The tournament is scheduled to be played in October this year and the arrangement of visas for the neighboring nation has been sorted out by the Indian government. It has been learned that BCCI secretary Jay Shah has informed the Apex Council about the government’s decision on giving visas to the Pakistan players.

India and Pakistan have been only playing in ICC tournaments and have not played in any bilateral series for many years now. The political tension between both countries have prevented the nations from doing so.

“The visa issue of Pakistan cricket team has been sorted. However whether the fans can travel across the border to watch matches is still not clear. It will be decided in due course of time. However, we had promised ICC that it will be sorted. The secretary announced during the meeting” an Apex Council member told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Apart from India, almost all other major cricket playing nation has denied traveling to Pakistan to play a bilateral series since the attack on Sri Lankan players in 2008. Very recently in 2021, South Africa agreed to play a full series in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has also identified the venues for the tournament later this year. The final will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Dharamshala are the other venues.

The last edition of the T20 World Cup was also held in India back in 2016. West Indies won the tournament for the second time back then having won their first title in 2012. The 2022 World T20 will be played in Australia before the 2023 50-over World Cup returns to India.
