The Chennai Super Kings are all set to take on the Delhi Capitals in the 7th Match for this year’s Indian Premier League. Delhi Capitals side led by Shreyas Iyer is coming into this game after winning a nail-biting thriller Super over against Kings XI Punjab.

On the other hand, MS Dhoni will walk into this game after facing heavy criticism from former cricketers like Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir for his captaincy during the match against Rajasthan.

The head to head record of both sides shows that the Super Kings have a clear edge over the Capitals side with CSK winning 15 of the 21 encounters between them. But let’s not get into too many details of the past as Delhi Capitals is a completely different side since last year which is why we should always expect something special from the young guns of Delhi.

As far as both sides are concerned, both teams have a set of power-packed players in form of Rishabh Pant, Ambati Rayudu, Deepak Chahar. Which is why today we will talk about five such key players who we all should watch out for in the battle between the two sides.

Let’s take a look at the 5 key players to watch out from the CSK vs DC game:

1. Sam Curran

The all-rounder from England has been growing sensation since a couple of years. After representing the Kings XI Punjab franchise last year, He was bought by the Chennai Super Kings franchise this season. He played an important role for his side in the opening encounter vs Mumbai Indians bowling those overs upfront in addition to him scoring a quickfire 18 to help CSK chase down the target set by Mumbai.

Furthermore, he was seen batting up the order even in the match against Rajasthan Royals but couldn’t really get off to a flying mark.

As Dhoni had entrusted Sam Curran in the previous game by sending the latter ahead of himself. We might just see it happen again and again this season as Dhoni mentioned the other day that he wants players like Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja to step up in the batting department.

2. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant

Pant showed his class as the Delhi boy scored a steady 31 in partnership with Shreyas Iyer the other day against Kings XI Punjab. In the past, we have seen him display his absolute best for the Delhi based franchise and we expect him to replicate the same this year.

The latter’s best season was in the year 2018 where he smashed 684 runs for the Delhi at an average of 52.3 striking around the 170s mark.

Not just the Delhi Capitals fans but his fans all over India will be looking to watch him bat this season. Since if he performs on a consistent basis this season we might just get into the good books of the national selectors.

3. Faf Du Plessis

The former South African captain has been in sublime form this season. After scoring a match-winning 58 against Mumbai Indians in the opening game, Du Plessis continued from where he left in the game against Rajasthan Royals. Though his side ended up on the losing side, he would cherish the way he’s been timing the ball way better than anyone in the CSK setup.

In the match against Rajasthan Royals, he was again the highest run-scorer for his side as he scored 72 off 37 deliveries. In the absence of CSK’s stalwart Suresh Raina, Du Plessis assumed the number three batting position and has been doing really putting up really big scores.

4. Shreyas Iyer

Much like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer is another player who is touted as India’s next limited-overs captain. He took over from Gautam Gambhir half through the 2018 season as Delhi Daredevils skipper and has been leading the side ever since. Shreyas Iyer’s statistics in the IPL since 2018 are quite astonishing, he scored more than 400 runs in each season since 2018.

On the other hand, it was under his captaincy the Delhi Capitals finished third in the 2019 season which is why we should watch out for Shreyas Iyer in the match against Chennai Super Kings.

5. Prithvi Shaw

The youngster we should have all our eyes on is Prithvi Shaw. Even though he didn’t fair out well in the first game against Kings XI Punjab. A player like Prithvi Shaw is expected to hit run-scoring button very soon this year.

Last year he scored a marvellous knock of 99 runs against KKR at Feroz Shah Kotla which is why surely expect him to replicate that sort of performance very soon this year. As a result, Shaw will certainly one of the 5 players to watch in the upcoming DC vs CSK game.
