IPL 2021: 5 Players Who Can Hit The Mid-Season Trade

Ishan Porel in IPL

Youngsters have been the stars of the Indian Premier League (IPL). From Prithvi Shaw to Devdutt Padikkal and Chetan Sakariya, all these youngsters have been ruling the ground in the ongoing IPL 2021. The overseas players are too setting the bar high. However, some names go unnoticed in the IPL. The players with massive talents sometimes warm the bench.

Simultaneously some teams are succumbing to fragile line-ups. Rajasthan Royals are battered after some of their players backed out while a few players are out with injuries. Kolkata Knight Riders are also trying to figure out the right combinations.

Here are five players who can be traded to other teams to who they will contribute in the ongoing IPL 2021:

Narayan Jagadeesan

One name that is living under the shadow is Narayan Jagadeesan. The Tamil Nadu-based wicket-keeper has been consistent in scoring runs in domestic cricket.

Making his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu in 2016, Jagadeesan is now a key player for Tamil Nadu. He became the highest run-getter in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 364 runs in eight games. The keeper marked his IPL arrival last year for Chennai Super Kings. But did not play many games as the keeper’s slot is already booked. CSK got their motion back in the season; hence, MS Dhoni will seldom alter the combination.

He can be traded to the teams struggling to put together the perfect combination. Teams like SunRisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders can give the platform.

Sam Billings

Sam Billings, an English wicket-keeper batter, is at Delhi Capitals’ camp currently. Billings has been with England’s limited-overs squad also. Unfortunately, he has warmed the bench there also. He made his IPL debut in 2016. Playing for Delhi Daredevils, Billings brought up fifty on debut match. He then moved to CSK in 2008. He stretched his hands quite well there. But the already star-studded side could not give him the spotlight that he had deserved.

In 2021, after remaining unsold in the first round, his parent franchise, Delhi Capitals roped him in. The problem has been the same, where to fit him in? DC depend more on their core Indian players and sorted with their overseas slot. With Rishabh Pant having the gloves, and Steve Smith shouldering the batting line-up, Billings may not feature at all. Thus, he can be traded to RR, who are struggling with their foreign players pulling out of the tournament or sustain injury.

Tim Seifert

The 26-year-old Kiwi is a natural hitter, having an aggressive technique, Tim Seifert garnered attention with his sensational hitting. Received his international cap in 2019, Seifert has amassed 695 runs in 35 T20Is for New Zealand.

In the Caribbean Premier League, Seifert represents Trinbago Knight Riders, the sister franchise of Kolkata Knight Riders. His performance persuaded KKR to rope him in last year. But he has not featured in any game as KKR already have core overseas players who are serving them for years. It is improbable that KKR will play an overseas keeper even if Dinesh Karthik needs a replacement. He can be traded to RR or Punjab Kings where he may get chances as a pure batter.

Ishan Porel

This Bengal pacer is sailing smoothly in the domestic circuit. Being a part of the India Under-19 World Cup-winning squad, Porel had an equation with the other two pacers Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti.

The lanky pacer delivers sharp bouncers. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Porel snapped 13 wickets in five fixtures bowled at an average of 10.85.

In 2020, Punjab Kings roped in him for his base price of INR 20 lakh. But, Punjab’s pace department is managed by Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh. While Rajasthan Royals may need a genuine speedster.

James Neesham

An all-rounder who has engineered himself as a reliable one in the T20 format. James Neesham, the medium-pacer can be a hitter down the order and give any team a good foundation. Having quintessential international experience, Nessham can be good for any franchise.

In 29 T20Is for the Kiwis, Neesham has snapped 18 wickets and knocked up 324 runs. He started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils in 2014, then joined KKR in 2015. Being with Punjab in 2020, Neesham was just ordinary. In 2021, he secured a place in Mumbai Indian. But the chance for him to be a part of playing XI is bleak. He can be traded to Punjab or Rajasthan, who are tottering at the moment.
