Young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is likely to continue as Delhi Capitals captain for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021). Incidentally, Pant was handed over the leadership duties in the absence of regular captain Shreyas Iyer, who missed out on the first leg due to a shoulder injury.

Iyer picked up a shoulder injury during the limited-overs series against England, which ruled him out for several months. He underwent surgery and was in rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy.

In a bit to return to the IPL folklore, Shreyas Iyer traveled to the UAE a week ahead of other Delhi Capitals players. While a return is on the cards, Delhi are likely to continue with Rishabh Pant as the captain.

As per reports in Sportskeeda, the management wants to give some more time to Shreyas Iyer to recover. As a result, Rishabh Pant will continue to lead the side.

“While it is great news that Shreyas Iyer is fit again and ready to get back to action, it is understood that the DC management want to give him more time to recover. As a result, Pant will continue as captain, but only for the second half of IPL 2021,” the report stated.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant did an excellent in his first-ever stint as IPL captain. Delhi Capitals are placed on top of the points table with 12 points from eight matches and almost look certain for a top-four finish.

Captaincy had made me a better cricketer: Shreyas Iyer

As he gear up to return, Shreyas Iyer feels that leadership role in Capitals did help him become a more astute cricketer since he improved man-management skills and temperament.

“Captaincy at Delhi Capitals has made me a better cricketer. I look at things, situations, the sport differently. It has improved my temperamental skills, my man-management skills as a leader. Ricky Ponting has been very supportive on that,” he said.
